Scoop-Rocker:

The higher curve at 1500mm reduces drag giving the board more top end speed downwind with an easier feeling ride. Upwind, the board generates a better free trim with more stability.

Outline:

The tail width is very wide to create maximum leverage for upwind sailing. With the round curve between the straps the board is more reactive with increased acceleration. A narrower and rounder nose avoids catching the waves when railing to the leeward side or travelling downwind.

Bottom Shape:

Flat panel V in the tail generates maximum top end speed and agility. Increasing V from under the mast-track to the nose puts the rail higher above the water to prevent it touching and disturbing the trim of the board. Double concave and side flats under the mast-track allow the board to dive in to the upcoming chop smoothly, giving more control.

Deck Shape:

A flat deck to produce a minimum material surface and the lightest overall weight. The raised tail height generates more leverage on the fin.

Rail Shape:

Sharp straight rails from the tail to the mast-track increase the top end speed and improve upwind performance. Round tucked and bevelled rails from the mast-track to the nose to prevent water catching the front.

Cutouts:

Without losing the free trim of the board we were able to change the cutout geometry and reduce their size due to the new scoop-rocker-line. This gives more stability and balance to the board while sailing. Adjustable cutout plates allow an individual trim to every sail type, sailor style and water condition.

Straps:

6 strap positions to improve control and performance downwind.

Construction:

No compromise on weight and twist stiffness. To save on weight the Formula is shaped quite thin compared to other board types. This wide board planes on its surface and rather than its volume. A thinner board is lighter, more reactive, has greater acceleration and is faster. Because of the wide width and the thin volume distribution there is a lot of twist and flex. The flex is acceptable and needed in stronger winds to give more control however extra twist can reduce performance. With the full Biax-Carbon deck and bottom the board still flexes but we’ve minimised the twist to keep the maximum performance benefits. To get the lightest finish possible the white paint is sanded off 75%.
